Frock ‘N’ Roll – Fifi Baggins
I knew I wanted to wear a Scottish Designer on the red carpet at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, and it didn’t take me long to find one of Scotland’s finest, Mairi McDonald. And what a find she is! Mairi’s eclectic designs have a youthful, laidback, effortless feel; dishevelled for a rock ‘n’ roll edge, but with a very high standard of craftsmanship involved in every single magnificent piece.
The dress I chose to wear on the red carpet is from her Off Duty collection; named after a rock ‘n’ roll legend the beautiful silk kimono style ‘Richards’ dress exudes elegance with an edge. The print is hand drawn and digitally printed onto silk. It is inspired by Scottish Paisley pattern, Indian Henna and Moroccan interiors. It’s such a wearable, versatile piece, the perfect event dress to stand out from the crowd effortlessly, and equally fabulous with a pair of flip flops on a beachy holiday.
Just to make absolutely sure that I did indeed stand out from the crowd, I teamed the dress with the most magnificent headpiece by renowned Irish Milliner, Laura Kinsella. Where do I even begin with this beauty? Reminiscent of sacred geometry (universal patterns used in the design of everything in our reality), it is a true work of art. I felt like a Princess wearing it. My fabulous Nadia Minkoff clutch, believe it or not, was packed full of cold and flu pills and potions, as I was absolutely dying with a dreadful lurgy that was doing the rounds in our neck of the woods! Even that couldn’t dampen my spirits though; it was a magical night.
I finished my look off with my very own handsome Prince by my side! Jason was a Juror at this year’s film festival and he looked so handsome in his kilt for the Opening Night Gala. He wore his family tartan, Ancient Hunting Maclean of Duart. I must give a huge shout out to Sandy and the team at Slaters of Edinburgh for making this fantastic, bespoke outfit for him. We were both very proud to be wearing Scottish at the 72nd Edinburgh International Film Festival.
