Flooid was born in the past, curated in the present and made for a better, more inclusive future.
A few years back I inherited some 30,000 original castings, designed and hand crafted in London from the 1960’s right through to the late 1980’s. A unique and fabulous treasure trove which I hold dearly for both sentimental and inspirational reasons.
From the most ornate to the basic minimal, every single piece has its place and value, handcrafted one at a time from original sketches at an era where craft was a force. I was intrigued at just how current the minimalist some of the castings were. Considering they had been made as far back as 50 years ago they retained a strong presence with clean, well balanced lines. Something I wanted to resurrect for the present as well as the future, but mostly I wanted to make jewellery that was for all.
The Flooid range has been put together as an aesthetic, leaving aside gender and age constraints. The idea of making it as both fine jewellery in Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil with the addition of fine plated brass castings was to enable Flooid to be more inclusive not just in style but also in cost, without compromising on form and finish.
Because everyone belongs.
